12/18 I Love Gin Subscription Box

12/18 gin box

This month in the 12/18 subscription box from ILoveGin.com I received Aber Falls Orange Marmalade gin, Sadlers Peaky Blinder Spiced Gin, 2 bottles of Regents Tonic water and a little snack of Whitworths Shots Berry and White Chocolate.

One of the first things I did when I got the box was put the gin in the freezer and the tonic in the fridge. I wanted it all properly chilled before I enjoyed it. I love the way the gin goes syrupy when it has been frozen!

It was genuinely surprising how orangey the gin was. I had a little sip straight out of the bottle and it was delicious! Usually I find spirits flavoured with citrus tend to taste more like the rind than the actual fruit but this was different. Not super “gin-y” but you can definitely tell it’s boozy.
I served mine with a bottle of the Regents tonic and a couple of thin slices of fresh lemon. Citrus is one of my absolute favourite flavours so orange and lemon is a match made in heaven for me.

I’ve got to say I was a little disappointed by this one. I tried it straight out of the bottle hoping that it would be full of delicious, wintery spice but it just smelled like a normal gin. I found that it tasted really strong of alcohol with little in the way of a gin flavour. I then hoped that if I mixed it with the Regents Tonic it would mellow the booze and the spices would come out. Unfortunately I was wrong again. If this was advertised as a normal gin, I would be happy with it when mixed with tonic. It’s a shame that it’s been put forward as a spiced gin. Saying that, for a normal gin, this would be a good one to have on your shelf for mixers.

Regents Tonic

The Regents tonic is the perfect conduit for a spirit; whether it be gin, vodka or something else. In fact, I would happily drink this on its own with ice and a little lemon. If you can find this tonic, buy it instead of Schweppes or Fever Tree. You will not be disappointed.

Whitworths Shots Berry and White Chocolate.

It was a nice surprise to get a small packet of white chocolate and dried cranberries and raisins.; a tasty combination and a bit different from my normal drinking snacks.

I can’t wait to see what I get in the January 2019 box!

ILoveGin.com have provided me with this box to review. I have not been paid for this review and my words are entirely my own.

I love the gin subscription box too; not because of the gin but for the chocolates! Chocolates really are my favorites.

I’m a fan of subscription boxes. It’s like giving a gift to yourself. It amazes me that there are subscription boxes for alcohols!
